A 19-year-old man who stole bikes from a school in Hampton was sentenced to 80 hours community service this week.

Casey Craig Moran, 19, from Feltham, stole two bikes with another male, from Hampton School in Hanworth Road, on December 4, 2011.

Moran was sentenced to a six month community order and told to pay £30 in costs at South Western Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, January 25.

Prosecutor Liz West said a witness was travelling along Hanworth Road and looked into the school to see two men in the grounds, just outside a bike shed. The witness saw one of the men climb on top the bike shed, bringing a bike with him.

Miss West said: “As the school was closed, she assumed the men were stealing the bikes.”

Police later found the men at a bus stop. CCTV was obtained from the school and both men were indentified and seen pushing the bikes out of the school grounds. At the police station, Moran tested positive for cocaine, the court heard.

Moran is looking for work while claiming benefits, has no qualifications and lives with his aunt after previously falling out with his mother.

The bikes, one of which was worth £500, were both recovered and returned to their owners.
